The way the female sex organs are depicted has always been an indicator of the female image and a woman’s role within our social systems. In the series of works VENUS IN BATH, the date seeds seem to glide through the transparent mass as female energy Yin, while they are in harmonious balance with the male energy Yang, embodied in the form of vitamin D capsules. The locations of these still lifes, characterized by movement frozen in time, are glass “bathtubs”, places of birth, which in their transparency gently enclose the bashfully concealed body part. Song Jing thus creates a sensual and at the same time humorous narrative against absence and shame—a self-confident mantra against speechlessness.
